While on my train ride home tonight, I was watching a YouTube video about the introduction of the compact disc that included a some clip of "Baubles." Then the song was stuck in my head so I opened iTunes to see if I had it on my laptop. Turns out I had three different Percy Faith recordings plus others by Sinatra, Caterina Valente, etc.

I had always thought that the recording on Amour, Amor, Amore was simply a reissue on the one from Kismet; they sounded nearly identical. However, I noticed that the Kismet version was a few seconds longer. I compared them and immediately heard that the introduction is slightly different.

Anyone else ever notice that? My guess is they are simply different takes from the same recording session back in January 1954. Percy later re-recorded it in stereo in 1962.

Kismet version (not a proper monaural transfer!):

Amour, Amor, Amore version:

It doesn't appear that Sony has made this one available on YouTube yet. Sorry!
