THE WQMR BASEBALL SCOREBOARD... brought to you by...
Great pictures of promotional material showing sponsors of the WQMR baseball scoreboard contributed by Tom Buckley! The "Gulf Presents" card dates from 1961, the "Herbie's Ford" card from 1965, and the Southern Development card from 1967. During most of the years of WQMR/WGAY, the scores were very popular and well-sponsored at :45 minutes past the hour. The basic format was rip 'n read headlines on the hour (3 or 4 headlines) with brief weather; highlighted, sponsored weather at :15, a "full" newscast at :30 (usually about 3-4 minutes' duration with lots o' commercials). Back-to-back music between, of course!
